00:18 --> 00:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I am currently working on a new update episode that will revisit some of the stories and events we covered in season 1.

00:29 --> 00:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Some of these situations have continued to develop.
00:32 --> 00:43 [SPEAKER_00]: There have been new lawsuits, new allegations, new responses, and new questions about accountability, governance, and what institutions do when the systems they've built fail the people they're supposed to protect.
00:44 --> 00:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So before we move forward, I wanted to take the time to go back, look at what has changed and bring the story up to date, and then we'll move into Season 2.
00:54 --> 01:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Season 1 focused largely on the vineyard movement and what those stories revealed about power, leadership, accountability, abuse, institutional protection, and the structures that allowed those failures to happen.

01:10 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to look at evangelical Christianity and America more broadly, how it developed, how power became concentrated within it, the rise of celebrity leadership, the relationship between theology and authority, the systems of accountability that often failed, and how many of the problems we explored in season one fit into something much larger.
01:32 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_00]: In other words, season 1 examined a particular ecosystem.
01:37 --> 01:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Season 2 asks what that ecosystem can tell us about the wider culture that produced it.

01:49 --> 01:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Over the past year or so, I've been thinking a lot about the kinds of stories I want to spend the next chapter of my career telling.

02:04 --> 02:07 [SPEAKER_00]: We spend a lot of time talking about extraordinary events.
02:07 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_00]: The disaster, the crime, the diagnosis, the discovery, the survival, the moment that makes the headline.
02:15 --> 02:18 [SPEAKER_00]: But I've become increasingly interested in what comes afterward.
02:19 --> 02:22 [SPEAKER_00]: How does somebody rebuild a life after something unimaginable?
02:23 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_00]: What changes?
02:25 --> 02:26 [SPEAKER_00]: What matters differently?
02:26 --> 02:27 [SPEAKER_00]: What gets lost?
02:28 --> 02:28 [SPEAKER_00]: What gets found?
02:29 --> 02:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And ultimately, who do they become?
02:32 --> 02:37 [SPEAKER_00]: That question has become the foundation of a new podcast I'm working on called Who We Become.

02:40 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Every life has a before, every life has an after.
02:44 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And the show is about the moments that create that dividing line, and the people who emerge on the other side.
02:51 --> 03:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be speaking with people who have survived extraordinary circumstances, made remarkable discoveries, endured profound loss, faced enormous challenges, or experienced moments that permanently changed the direction of their lives.
03:06 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_00]: And while, who we become is a very different show from spoiled fruit, there's actually a connection between them that means a lot to me.
03:14 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_00]: One of the things I've learned making spoiled fruit is that the event itself is only part of the story.
03:21 --> 03:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Institutional failure matters, accountability matters, justice matters.
03:27 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_00]: But so does the person who has to continue living after everyone else moves on to the next headline.
03:34 --> 03:36 [SPEAKER_00]: That question, what happens afterward?
03:37 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Is something I want to explore more deeply?
