Accountability on Trial | A Spoiled Fruit Update — Revised Edition
Who takes responsibility when allegations of abuse reach beyond a local church?
In this revised update, John Williamson revisits the Duluth litigation, two Anaheim lawsuits, and the Kansas case involving Vineyard Church of Overland Park. We examine efforts to end claims before trial and distinguish allegations, legal defenses, and court decisions.
One Duluth case was brought after a woman's death by suicide. Her family alleges that the abuse and resulting trauma caused her death. We explain why her representative faced a different legal deadline from the one that would have governed her own claim had she lived.
This edition also incorporates the full Safeguarding by Design investigation report concerning a former Ohio pastor. We discuss its findings, his responses, the boundaries between pastoral care and clinical counseling, and failures of institutional oversight identified by investigators.
Individual case participants are unnamed in this edition. The general docket review is dated October 20, with an October 30 update confirming a settlement notice in the first Anaheim case and checking the Kansas released-decision database. Exact settlement parties, insurers, and terms remain unverified. The Ohio investigation report is dated August 10, 2026. Investigative findings are distinct from court judgments.
Content note: Discussion of sexual abuse allegations, death by suicide, pastoral misconduct, and institutional responses. No graphic descriptions.
Hosted by John Williamson. A John Williamson Productions LLC production.
